Creative Recovery Group

A relaxed and supportive creative group for women aged 18 and over who are recovering from domestic abuse.

The Creative Recovery Group offers women a safe space to take part in simple creative activities, spend time with others and gradually rebuild confidence.

You do not need any previous experience of art or creative activities. The sessions are suitable for complete beginners, and there is no pressure to produce anything in particular or to keep up with anyone else.

What happens at the group?

Activities may include painting, drawing, crafts, making and other simple creative projects. Everything is explained clearly, and you can take part at your own pace.

There is also time to have a cup of tea, talk to other women if you would like to, or simply concentrate on what you are doing.

You will never be expected to talk about your experiences of domestic abuse. Some women may find it helpful to share experiences with others, but this is always a personal choice.

The group aims to provide an opportunity to:

• enjoy a relaxing and positive activity
• spend time with other women in a supportive setting
• feel less isolated
• build confidence at your own pace
• try something new without being judged
• have some time that is simply for you

Who is the group for?

The Creative Recovery Group is for women aged 18 and over who have experienced domestic abuse and feel they may benefit from a gentle, supportive creative group.

The current group is for women only.

What the group does not provide

The Creative Recovery Group is a creative wellbeing activity. It is not counselling, psychotherapy, art therapy or a specialist domestic abuse service.

Our role is to provide a safe and supportive activity and a chance to connect with other women. If someone needs specialist or clinical support, we can help them find an appropriate service.

Privacy and safety

We understand that privacy can be particularly important for women who have experienced domestic abuse.

For this reason, we do not publish the location, meeting times or detailed arrangements for the Creative Recovery Group online. These are shared privately with confirmed participants.

You do not need to tell us what has happened to you when you first make contact.

When you enquire, we will ask how it is safest for us to contact you. We will not leave a voicemail or send detailed information about the group unless you have told us that it is safe to do so.
