Community Connection

Not everybody wants to join a social group simply for the sake of meeting people. Sometimes it is easier when there is something to do together.

Brighter Futures is interested in activities that give people a reason to come together without putting pressure on them to socialise. People can talk if they want to, concentrate on what they are doing if they don't, and get to know others naturally over time.

Coffee, Cake & Computers

Coffee, Cake & Computers is a programme we would like to bring back for older people who would like a little more confidence using computers, tablets or the internet.

The idea is deliberately simple. Bring along something you would like help with, have a cup of tea or coffee and some cake, and work through it with someone who can help.

That might mean learning how to send photographs, use email, make a video call, find something online, use a tablet, create a document or simply understand what all those buttons are supposed to do.

You do not need to know anything about computers before coming along, and there is no syllabus to keep up with. If there is one particular thing you would like to learn, we can start there.

There is another reason for running the sessions this way. Learning something alongside other people provides an easy opportunity to talk and spend time together without having to join a formal social group. Some people will enjoy chatting over coffee; others may be happier concentrating on their computer. Both are fine.

Would you be interested?

Coffee, Cake & Computers is not currently running, but we would like to restart it if there is enough interest.

Before deciding where and when to hold the sessions, we want to hear from people who might like to take part. This will help us understand where the programme would be most useful and choose a location that works for the people interested in coming.

Registering your interest does not commit you to attending. We will simply keep your details and contact you if we are able to arrange a group in your area.
